The title of the trek has already explained itself. The Upper Dolpo experience circuit trek is a unique trek as it offers a lot of opportunities which are very different from other treks experiences in Nepal. The Landscape to culture, the middle hills to the high Himalaya views, its rare culture practices. The different types of Buddhism practices, like Bonpo by the Chiaba and Somba people. The Plain land at Nepalgunj, where rice fields are incredibly beautiful from your aeroplane, to green hills, dry clay mountain dunes, makes the Upper Dolpo experience circuit trek very special. The Nepalese government charges 500 USD to enter this region. In addition, foreigners need Lower Dolpo permits and Shey Phoksundo National Park permits, which make the trek expensive, but it's one trek one must do in one's life! How hard or difficult is the Upper Dolpo experience circuit trek
The Upper Dolpo experience trek is not an easy trek due to its 3 passes over 5000 metres; the trail is also remote. One needs to do some walking, cycling, swimming, and other available sports before this trek, or do another smaller hike beforehand, to keep fit.
How long has the Upper Dolpo circuit trek been in operation?
Our Upper Dolpo Experience trek is 3 weeks long, though we can do it for just 2 weeks. We allow time for our trekkers to acclimate to such high altitude and to experience its unique culture and traditional practices, so it's 3 weeks, and we call it the Upper Dolpo experience circuit trek instead of just the Upper trek.
Upper Dolpo Trek permits
We need four trekking permits for this trek, as it's considered a restricted area: the Upper Dolpo special permit (USD 500 for 10 days, plus USD 50 per day for extra days), the lower Dolpo trekking permit, and the Shey Phoksundo National Park permits. The trekking permits are expensive, and all those 4 domestic flights make the trek expensive, but it's unique.
Preparation of the Upper Dolpo experience circuit trek
We will handle all logistics for the trek, including trekking permits and camping arrangements, but please prepare physically on your own to get fit for this challenging trek due to its high-altitude passes and remoteness.
